Francesco Vitucci, The translation of gay characters in the feature film Hush! by Hashiguchi Ryōsuke: challenges and perspectives of interlinguistic subtitling, «QUADERNI DI SEMANTICA», 2020, 6, pp. 401 - 435
This study focuses on the sociolinguistic emergency of subtitling from Japanese with a particular focus on the analysis of the so-called «neutral» translations within English prosubs of feature films. Since synchronic varieties of languages coexist within a so-called «linguistic continuum» thanks to a relationship of mutual inclusion, this study will focus on the negotiation of linguistic prescriptions produced by the characters on the screen together with the sense of multiple identity and the contextual/situational pressures they convey through their dialogues.
